The chart tracks average project rate over ten years. For the first six it barely moves - the competence zone, where you're still measured against other options and rates creep up a little each year. Then the line bends sharply upward into the authority zone. What changed isn't the work; it's that buyers stopped asking how much you charge and started asking who else does this.
